Application

Sand separators with integrated sand washer represent another way of sand separation at WWTPs, where the inflow is from pumping station. In contrast to sand catchers, they don’t require demanding construction preparedness and their installation is easy – simply you put them on the floor inside the building.

Technical description

Sand separator consists of cylindrical vessel with conical bottom. In the centre of the separator is placed the stilling cylinder, into which the inflow from pumping station is tangentially brought. Waste water loses its velocity, after it leaves the stilling cylinder, but particles heavier than water (sand) have bigger kinetic energy and they continue in spiral trajectory towards the bottom of separator. Area under the stilling cylinder is equipped with fine-bubble aeration system and the space between the stilling cylinder and outer jacket of separator is aerated as well. The aeration ensures that settling sand is perfectly washed. All lightweight particles flotates to surface, from where they outflow via pipeline into denitrification tank. Floating impurities from stilling cylinder are brought to ouflow of separator too and further to denitrification tank. In case when inflowing waste water contains big amount of fat, then fat which flotates on surface of stilling cylinder will be brought to sludge tank. Sand separators are made in three versions.

SEPPfilter

It is equipped with filtration unit, into which the sand is pumped from the bottom of separator via air-lift pump. Filtration unit consists of filtration sack, which is mechanically fixed to opening of air-lift pump and is put into specially modified dustbin, which is due to easy manipulation equipped with wheels. At the bottom of the dustbin, there is a hole, through which the filtrate outflows into denitrification tank. When sack is full of sand, the dustbin is transported to spot of waste collection and further is emptied by dust van.

SEPPcontainer

the filtration unit is substituted by dewatering container. It is necessary to throw manually (by shovel) the sand which accumulates in dewatering container into container for waste.

SEPPworm

This version is equipped with worm conveyor, heavy particles fall directly into funnel of conveyor, from where they are transported into waste container.

Material workmanship

All components of sand separators SEPP, which comes into contact with waste water are made of stainless austenitic chromium-nickel steel 1.4301.
